Travel through the defining moments that shaped modern China, guided by historians, writers, and local experts.
History here unfolds on foot and in context. WildChina’s history journeys move through neighborhoods, former institutions, wartime sites, and everyday streets, using research, first-hand accounts, and long-term local relationships to uncover the lives once lived within them.
WildChina’s history journeys are led by journalists, historians, and researchers whose work is closely tied to the places explored.
Experts include Melinda Liu, veteran foreign correspondent and daughter of an Honorary Doolittle Raider; Alan Babington-Smith, historian and founder of the Royal Asiatic Society Beijing; and Paul French, author of Midnight in Peking, whose investigation into the Pamela Werner case inspired the walking experience.
