Xu Zhimo is considered to be one of the most important modern Chinese poets. He introduced a new style of poetry to China, one that moved away from classical Chinese prose and incorporated vernacular language and Western influences. Join us in conversation with his grandson Tony Hsu who shares the life and legacy of the visionary poet in his book Chasing the Modern: The Twentieth-Century Life of Poet Xu Zhimo.

Tony Hsu is the grandson of legendary Chinese poet, Xu Zhimo and author of the book Chasing the Modern. He received a master’s degree in philosophy and a doctorate in applied physics from Yale University and worked for the US Atomic Energy Commission, Newport Corporation (laser technology company). Tony Hsu later became the founder of a venture capital firm Tech Coast Angels.
