About this Journey

We’re excited to partner with Global Heritage Fund to bring you this exclusive journey inside Guizhou. Join us as we explore the rich cultural traditions of the Buyi, Miao, and Dong people through local experiences, amidst a backdrop of karst mountains, rice terraces, and wooded hillsides.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Guiyang

Meet your WildChina guide in the airport arrivals hall – We’ll have your private vehicle on standby ready to transfer you to your hotel • Wander through the gilded halls of Guizhou’s oldest Zen Buddhist temple – the Hongfu Buddhist Temple

Day 2Buyi Village

Moving deeper into unpaved territory, set out on a ~2-hour drive to the home of the Buyi people • Discover the traditions of the Buyi people who are believed to be related to the earliest inhabitants of Guizhou • Celebrate the Buyi Chaibai Singing Festival which brings together thousands of villagers for an evening to remember

Day 3Fan Pai Village and Feiyunya

Begin your day at Fan Pai Village, where you’ll meet the Black Miao (or Hmu) people, known for their distinct dark color of their traditional clothing • Enjoy a locally sourced, homemade lunch • Head to Feiyunya Village to celebrate the Lusheng Festival – an ancestral worship that involves a jubilant traditions of dancing , rooster fighting, and water buffalo fighting

Day 4Dali Dong Village

Begin your next few days at the Dali Dong Village, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, to immerse yourself in the traditions of one of the largest ethnic groups in Guizhou – the Dong people • Enjoy a “vintage fish” banquet, a Dong culinary tradition • Meet Grandpa Lao Yang, a village elder who will show share the history and culture of the Dong people • Enjoy a private dinner at the village’s Drum Tower, and learn traditional song and dance 

Day 5Dali Dong Village

Learn a Dong dyeing technique, derived from soybeans, that results in a light blue ink • Visit the DOUSA Dong Women’s Cooperative that helps bring economic opportunity and maintain the Dong heritage of textile production •  Hike around the verdant landscape before meeting with a village shaman and enjoying a private Dong a capella performance •  Spend the rest of the evening as the guest of honor at a village leader’s home

Day 6Biasha Village

Enjoy an early morning hike in the village and enjoy sweeping views of the hillside villages and verdant countryside • Drive to Biasha Village • Meet Biasha Miao villagers to learn about their unique gun customs • Drive to Congjiang and spend the rest of the evening at your leisure

Day 7Depart from Congjiang

Meet your WildChina guide and driver at the hotel lobby and drive (~3 hours) to the Guiyang airport for your departure flight back home.

What is the payment schedule? 

  1. Deposit:

Once you are ready to book, a $500 USD per person planning fee is required to begin reserving your arrangements. This will go towards your total trip costs and will be taken off your final balance amount. 

  1. Full payment:
    Full trip payment will be requested 60 days prior to departure. If you’re booking within 60 days of your departure, you may be asked to pay make the full payment straight away.

Payments can be made via credit card, bank transfer, WeChat or Alipay.
