Shiyu Li

Shiyu Li was born and raised in Xinjiang. With Mongolian, Miao, and Han heritage and experience living abroad, Shiyu has long been interested in how people with different backgrounds understand and share a place.

Shiyu’s work focuses on Xinjiang, the Silk Road, and the cultures of western China. An interest in nomadic ways of life shapes Shiyu’s view of the relationship between people and the natural world. When designing a journey, Shiyu starts by listening to the traveler’s story, then considers the places, communities, and encounters that will speak to their interests.

Outside work, Shiyu enjoys ice climbing and desert trekking. Those experiences bring firsthand knowledge of the region’s landscapes to the trips Shiyu plans.
