Over the past ten days, there has been news of student protests in Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region northern China. The Wall Street Journal reports that the protests were triggered by “the deaths of ethnic Mongolians at the hands of Chinese workers.” Xilinhot, a city more than 600 km away from the capital city of Hohhot, was a central location for student protests last week, and security forces contained calls for further demonstrations by censoring various online media outlets such as Sina Weibo.
